Yagan Historical Project with Winterfold School Students

Through my role as Museum Creative Learning Producer for City of Melville I worked with students from Winterfold Engagement School to learn about iconic resistance fighter Yagan.

Using ABC’s education resources, student’s watched Dr. Noel Nannup share the story of Yagan and his family. As well as, ABC’s television series Stuff The British Stole.

From this, students looked at articles published about Yagan at the time in Perth Gazette through the Trove website, maps of the Swan River Colony, historical paintings and artist Julie Dowling’s painting ‘Yagan’.

Students then chose certain significant historical events to create collages using these resources. There collages were then created into learning resource available for the wider community. Photos below are of postcards and wall paper that was displayed at A H Bracks Library.
